Clydeside Action on Asbestos (CAA) has recently launched a self management toolkit for people living with an asbestos related condition.
The self management toolkit contains four information leaflets and a self management DVD. The information leaflets were developed with members of support groups and are based on their experiences of living with an asbestos related condition.
The leaflets consist of a Personal Stories leaflet, a Managing Breathlessness leaflet, a Frequently Asked Questions leaflet and a Hints and Tips leaflet. The emphasis is on planning, pacing and prioritising, staying active and knowing and understanding which asbestos condition has been diagnosed. One of the support group members summarised their philosophy as ‘I can’t change the fact that I have an asbestos related condition but I can choose how I live my life. I stay positive and do everything I can to enjoy life’ and this is reflected throughout the toolkit.
Clydeside Action on Asbestos hope that you will find the toolkit useful resource. If you would like to receive copies of the printed version in its folder, please contact Lynda Harry, at CAA firstname.lastname@example.org with your address. The toolkit can otherwise be viewed and downloaded from the CAA website at www.clydesideactiononasbestos.org.uk.(select asbestos related conditions heading, then self management toolkit).
